2022 Costs For Part C And D

What Are The 2022 Costs For Part C And D?

Unlike Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), Medicare Part C (also known as Medicare Advantage) and Part D are only available through private insurance. Because of this, changes in costs will vary based on the plan and insurer. However, there are some ways in which you will see definite price changes for 2022.

What Are Part C’s 2022 Costs?

Part of why Medicare Part C can have so much variety in cost changes is due to the types of plans that fall under it. Such plans include Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and Special Needs Plans (SNPs). Some are higher in cost due to the coverage extensiveness and the individuals the plans are designed for.

But certain costs are guaranteed because of what you need to have in order to obtain a Part C plan.

In order to have Medicare Part C, you have to continue paying Medicare Part B costs, such as the premiums and deductibles. In 2022, the standard Part B premium is $170.10, and the deductible is $233.

You’ll also have to pay Part A-related costs, such as the $1,556 deductible, and daily hospital coinsurance costs ($389 for days 61-90; $778 for days 91-150).

What Are Part D’s 2022 Costs?

Part D plans vary widely in costs. What can be said, though, is that there are exact premium cost increases depending on annual income from 2020 and tax filing status.

Nothing will be added to your premium if you:

  • Earned $91,000 or less and filed individually (or married and separately)
  • Earned $182,000 or less and filed jointly

$12.40 will be added to your premium if you:

  • Earned more than $91,000 but less than or equal to $114,000
  • You filed jointly with an income higher than $182,000 but less than or equal to $228,000

$32.10 will be added if you:

  • Earned more than $114,000 but less than or equal to $142,000
  • Filed jointly and earned more than $228,000 but less than or equal to $284,000

$51.70 will be added if you:

  • Earned more than $142,000 but less than or equal to $170,000
  • Filed jointly and earned more than $284,000 but less than or equal to $340,000

$71.30 will be added if you:

  • Earned more than $170,000 but less than $500,000
  • Filed jointly and earned more than $340,000 but less than $750,000
  • Filed married and separately and earned more than $91,000, but less than $409,000

$77.90 will be added if you:

  • Earned $500,000 or more
  • Filed jointly and earned $750,000 or more
  • Filed married and separately and earned $409,000 or more

The maximum amount of the Part D deductible will also be $480 in 2022 compared to $445 in 2021.
