Cornerstone Senior Advisors tells you how to apply for Medicare

How Do I Apply for Medicare?

Many people qualify for Original Medicare and will be automatically enrolled close to their 65th birthday.  Those that are automatically enrolled and do not wish to make any changes will not need to do anything else. Those that wish to enroll in Medicare Advantage or do not automatically qualify have a few different enrollment options.

Applying for Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, is sold through private insurance companies. They work very closely with Medicare to ensure that coverage is being delivered according to the guidelines that have been set out. When enrolling in Part C, make sure that you’re working with an insurance provider you trust.

Enrolling in Medicare Advantage is done through the private insurance provider. In order to qualify for Part C, you must qualify for Original Medicare. Advantage Plans can vary, so take the time to research and find the provider with a policy that will work best for you. If you’re wanting to learn more about Medicare Advantage, feel free to contact us today. We can provide more information and help you with the research process.

Enrolling in Original Medicare

Enrolling in Original Medicare can be done in person, online, and over the phone. The enrollment process will have the same requirements and qualifications no matter the method is chosen, so it’s best to pick based on convenience.

Medicare enrollment is done through Social Security, so you can enroll online through their website. There’s also an option to apply for Medicare and still not be receiving Social Security benefits. Enrolling online can be convenient if you have access to a computer and know what plan you’re going to choose already.  If you wish to apply for Medicare over the phone, you can call the designated number Social Security has set aside.

Medicare enrollment can also be done in-person. If you wish to enroll in-person, contact your local Social Security office to see if you’ll need to make an appointment or if they’re accepting walk-ins. If there is a convenient Social Security office and you prefer to do things on paper, enrolling in-person may be the best option for you.
